My most recent hobby, like many of my other ones, has begun with a rocky start. I'm learning as I go, having fun while I'm at it, and keeping the duck-philosophy (as my dad calls it) in mind.

Inspiration
Here is a short list of the more experienced farmers I have been following and learning from. They are from all different climates and locations in the Americas and so their context tends to vary greatly from mine. Nevertheless, they have provided good practices and skills which I have learned and hope to implement.

1. The Urban Farmer - Curtis Stone
You can find-out more about him on his website, theurbanfarmer.co, and/or watch his videos on his YouTube.
I have spent many hours watching his videos, reading his book, and taking notes from the the content he produces. He's a solid Canadian urban farmer who knows what he's talking about. Unfortunately, he is in 4-Season-Canada and I am in 1-Season-Florida, so not all of his instruction is of help to me. Regardless, he sparked my interest in urban farming.
2. The Farmer to Farmer Podcast - Chris Blanchard
As the title just before his name suggests, Chris Blanchard makes a phenomenal podcast which I thoroughly enjoy listening to. On The Farmer to Farmer Podcast, he has interviewed numerous prominent people in the urban farming/general farming environment, such as Curtis Stone and Jean-Martin Fortier. My favorite, probably because it is the most applicable to me, is his interview with Ray Tyler. If you live in a southern climate and want to grow lettuce (like I do), that is the interview to listen to. Regardless of where you live, I believe you will find his podcasts valuable.
3. Creative Destruction - Diego Footer
Creative Destruction is a podcast hosted by Diego Footer. On his podcast he occasionally interviews farmers and daily records a short podcast about daily life. In these short podcasts, he shares his honest thoughts and experiences with the listener. Diego Footer is a knowledgable man with good information to share and he does it in a calm, patient voice which make all of his audios a pleasure to hear.
4. Jean-Martin Fortier
I have yet to purchase his book The Market Gardener, but I have absorbed many podcasts and videos in which he is featured. He is doing great things on his multi-acre farm in Quebec, Canada.

As I learn from more people, I am sure this list will grow. But, for now, I am going to focusing on applying what I have learned. I'm sure the hours of learning from these experienced farmers will pay off. They have done the work and communicated the concepts and now it's my turn to run with it, or till with it.
